Amy Duverger Boston Sports Massage Therapy

Amy started her career as a massage therapist as an athlete. Growing up in Pembroke, she played soccer and softball from a young age and continued to play throughout high school. As much as she thrived on the sport itself, she became captivated by the mentality that inspired people to perform at their very best. This led her to the University of Massachusetts, Boston where she pursued her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology.

After college, Amy decided to move to Arizona to work for the YMCA as a Youth and Sports Director. As she was busy putting together programs and working with kids, she decided that she also wanted to work with adults and help them address their challenges. So she studied to become a Certified Personal Trainer and added that to her list of responsibilities there. But while she gained a lot of experience, she knew that there was something missing from the picture.

The answer came to her while vacationing in Sedona. She had visited a spa for a day of relaxation. "I remember sitting in the waiting area with some cucumber water and cheese and crackers and thought to herself 'This [massage] would be such an amazing career!'" She had always had an interest in Massage and Anatomy and the thought of restoring people to good health worked well with her previous experiences. So she went back to Phoenix later that week and signed up for school at the Arizona School of Massage Therapy. In just a few months, she was taking classes!

Amy learned a variety of modalities, but the ones that really sparked her interest were Structural, Deep Tissue, Trigger Point, Sports Massage and Prenatal. After graduation, Amy worked for a local spa and the South Mountain Community College Baseball Team where she honed her skills at sports massage and personal training. Working at both places gave her the opportunity to utilize all of her skills before joining the team at the Boston Bodyworker and she hopes to add Strength and Conditioning/Exercise Science to her ever-widening list of skills in order to give her more insight into rehabilitative work.

When Amy has free time, she likes to run and work out. She is training this winter to start running road races this spring. "Running is the best medicine."
