"Katrina brings a solid sense of professionalism to her work. She was a student at the Chicago School of Massage Therapy and distinguished herself by achieving Myofascial Certification shortly after her graduation. She brings a solid anatomical and structural understanding to her work and a skillful sense of palpation and clinical discernment. You will simply not find a more engaging, creative and successful bodywork practitioner. Katrina has assisted me in regional continuing educational programs. I chose her specifically for her strong verbal skills, professional sense of body mechanics and a devoted sense of commitment to the ideals and standards of this great profession. Katrina is a prefect example of the massage therapy success story. She will not only continue to enjoy professional success but will grow into a role model and mentor to others." Katrina is originally from Massachusetts. She received her Bachelor's degree in Cultural Anthropology from Ithaca College, and shortly thereafter moved to Chicago. The study of Anthropology is partly what drew Katrina to become a massage therapist. A class in Medical Anthropology re-sparked her interest in alternative healing modalities, and she began to research career opportunities in the quickly growing field of therapeutic massage and bodywork. She found the Chicago School of Massage Therapy to be her answer in the quest for an institution that combined a rigorous academic schedule with a truly holistic approach to massage. Katrina has dedicated herself to health and wellness through the body, mind and spirit. Katrina graduated from the Chicago School of Massage Therapy in 2001, and shortly thereafter completed a certification in Myofascial Release massage. She has also taken courses with the OMERI (Orthopedic Massage Education Institute) Institute. Katrina is honored to be a teaching assistant to Bob King, and most recently participated in the Myofascial Release course at the American Massage Therapy Conference. Katrina practices a combination of Swedish, deep Tissue, myofascial release, trigger point and body movement techniques. She tailors each session to fit the needs of every client. She is acutely aware of creating a healing space for each client and most importantly helping to teach awareness of the body. Katrina completed a 500 hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training under the tutelage of Barbara Benagh of Wellspace in January of 2007. Barbara has been a fixture in the yoga community nationally and internationally for over 30 years, and is known for her "Slow Flow" Hatha yoga style. Atlhough not currently teaching, Katrina blends her yoga training into her sessions, which she finds to be revolutionary in the art of therapeutic massage. Other sport interests include cycling, which Katrina fell in love with when she bought a road bike in the summer of 2005. When not practicing her beloved yoga, or cycling the streets of Boston and beyond, she can be found searching for new favorite restaurants, bakeries and cafes. Katrina is always happy and willing to accept recommendations for brunch spots. |
