Services: Types of Bodywork: Ear Acupuncture (Auriculotherapy) |
How does Ear Acupuncture work?Auriculotherapy is a form of acupuncture that uses tiny needles for the stimulation of the auricle of the external ear for the diagnosis and treatment of health conditions in other parts of the body. It has an ancient history and was modernized in the 1950's by a French practioner, then later by Chinese practioners; and since the 1950's a sophisticated map of reflex areas was developed and is used today to decide where to place the needles. Ear acupuncture works by balancing energy flows in the body and by correcting energy flows in the brain by stimulating and balancing specific areas- this balancing in turn leads to a reduction of excess stimulation, i.e. stress, or to an enhancement of a weak or deficient area- in essence creating a balanced state in the body. There is a great deal of scientific research available on its efficacy in the treatment of addiction, pain, and stress. At the Boston Bodyworker we consider it an excellent introduction to Acupuncture; and feel it can be used as an excellent way to relax, or for the treatment of pain. Auriculotherapy has demonstrated efficacy in treating the following conditions: stress reduction, addiction, pain relief. For more information please see the website www.auriculotherapy.com |
